What to understand

A model marketing name is not a board-revision identifier. Exact PCB marking, storage variant, connector orientation and source provenance must be recorded.

Candidate test pads from a photograph or unrelated boardview are hypotheses, not safe wiring instructions. Confirm ground and power topology with appropriate instruments, then require verified net continuity and independent review.

A missing pad should not automatically be labelled GND or NC. Manufacturer NC and board-unconnected are different claims.

Safe practical workflow

1. Create an evidence table: model, PCB revision, storage package, source and confidence tier.
2. Label candidate pads UNKNOWN until proven by approved schematic/net evidence or a suitable non-destructive method.
3. Add orientation marker and voltage-domain risks to a proposed diagram.
4. Write a publication gate with reviewer, revision and what remains unverified.
